Ririchiyo Shirakiin (白鬼院 凜々蝶 Shirakiin Ririchiyo) is the main character of the story, currently resides in room number 4 of the Ayakashi Kan, and is the master of Soushi Miketsukami. Ririchiyo is constantly in distress about not being able to communicate with people properly and decided to move to the Ayakashi Kan in order to be alone. She later befriends Karuta and Banri, who both attend the same school and live in the Ayakashi Kan. She has been called a tsunshun instead of tsundere because she gets depressed (shun) instead of getting modest (dere) after behaving in a conceited manner.

Personality
Ririchiyo does not make friends easily because of her family name and her natural haughtiness. She has been called a tsunshun instead of tsundere because she gets depressed (shun) instead of getting modest (dere) after behaving in a conceited manner. However, friends who get to know her well will understand her better, although other strangers may be insulted by what she says at times.

Soushi Miketsukami (御狐神双熾 Miketsukami Sōshi) is the nine tailed spirit fox and is also of mixed blood (youkai and human) like the other members of SS, but he is the most powerful one. Soushi is usually calm, polite, and gentle to everyone, but has a soft spot for Ririchiyo Shirakiin (his partner). He blindly obeys her like a "dog" and always tries to protect her, even if his own life is at risk. He used to serve Kagerou Shoukin.

Personality
Soushi before Ririchiyo was a decietful person, that put up a disguise to play with women. He was cold inside. After he started to write letters to her, pretending to be Kagerou, he found that he was changing, and becoming kinder. Soushi is a calm, level-headed person. He is sweet and caring, especially towards Ririchiyo. He is completely loyal to her and does not hesitate to protect if her life is in danger, even if it means risking his own.

Yuzuru Otonashi (音無 結弦, Otonashi Yuzuru)

 Otonashi is the main protagonist of Angel Beats!. Due to his past, he has a caring personality and does not want anyone to experience pain or sadness. After dying, he lost his memories of the time when he was still alive, but later regains them. He had a younger sister, Hatsune (初音, Voiced by: Mai Nakahara), who died of an illness and who he cared for very much. When she died, he decided to go to school to become a doctor, but died in a train accident before he could take the entrance exam to college. Initially unskilled in any equipment, he starts to practice his marksmanship, and pulls through for the team when they are in danger. He carries a Glock 17.

Yuri Nakamura (仲村 ゆり Nakamura Yuri)

Yuri, also known as Yurippe (ゆりっぺ), has a determined personality and invites Otonashi to join the SSS, an organization she founded and leads which fights against God. She is smart and decisive when making operations and decisions. She carries a silver Beretta 92 but is seen using a TDI Vector, CheyTac Intervention, and Mk 18 Mod 0 CQBR with a drum magazine. Not only is she skilled with a gun, but she is also capable in close range hand-to-hand combat. She vowed to fight against God after her three younger siblings were murdered by burglars looking for valuables when she was alive and never forgave herself for failing to prevent their deaths. She is an effective leader, but does not think so. She does not really notice that she actually cares a lot for the SSS members like another family. She regrets even fighting with Kanade later in the story, because she feels she could have been great friends with her. After coming to terms with Kanade, she often adores and fawns over her.

 Kanade Tachibana (立華 かなで Tachibana Kanade)

Angel is the student council president at the afterlife school. This places her at odds with the SSS as her responsibilities require her to suppress delinquency and other disruptive activities that the team does. The SSS initially calls her "Angel" since they do not know her real name, but they still refer to her by it even after finding out her real name to be Kanade Tachibana. It is difficult to understand what she is thinking due to her rarely showing any outward emotions and her way of talking bluntly. Despite her gentle demeanor and small frame, she is incredibly powerful and near indestructible to the point of ejecting bullets out of her wounds during battle. She creates her powers through a program called Angel Player. She is personally dedicated to helping others overcome their regrets and pass on. However, she often lacks a proper understanding of others, as she never thinks to try and explain to the SSS why she was doing what she did. She has an affinity for eating mapo doufu, a spicy dish.

Merry Nightmare (メリー・ナイトメア, Merī Naitomea^?)

A dream demon from the dreamworld, who allegedly came into the real world 10 years ago without any memory. Unlike the other dream demons, she doesn't need to possess a human to enter the real world, as she has her own body. Searching for a door to come back to the Dreamworld, she falls on Yumeji one day, who wants to help her to find her way back home. At first reluctant, when a daydream occurs and when she saves Yumeji's life, she accepts his help. She is able to break the daydreams in order to get back in the real world. She can't eat spicy food or drink carbonated soda, but she loves doughnuts above everything and likes video games a lot. She currently works at the Tachibana restaurant. Merry's distinct features include horizontal slit-shaped pupils similar to that of sheep and a scar on her right hand. She soon remembers that she is guardian of the gate between the real and dream worlds, having the power to send dream demons back to the dream world and keep them locked away from the real world, using a set of keys as a weapon.

Yumeji Fujiwara (藤原 夢路, Fujiwara Yumeji^?)

The main protagonist. 10 years ago he received the ability to perceive the aura of people's dreams, which allows him to predict what kind of dreams they are going to have. Though his normal predictions are hazy at best, he can clearly identify when someone is destined to have a nightmare. He is a lazy, yet strong-willed and determined person with a heart of gold, who is always ready to help others. He is also a member of a writing club at his high school, and is a big fan of the superhero called Guricho. He meets Merry when she falls on top of him as he comes back from his errands, and together, they enter a daydream – basically, a dream that occurs in full daylight. He has firmly decided to help Merry to come back in the Dreamworld, and eventually becomes her partner, using his ability to scout out nightmares so Merry can hunt them. He had a scar on his right hand just like Merry but now it is totally gone without a trace. With the assistance of the dream demon John Doe, Yumeji learns how, like in a lucid dream, he can manifest weapons during daydreams. He is able to use this power in a battle against Chain Noir to completely take over the dream world and bring it into his own dream, letting John Doe and his followers join the fight. It is questioned by John over whether Yumeji is really human, as he can enter daydreams without his help and his mental injuries heal quickly.

Zakuro Fujiwara (藤原 ざくろ, Fujiwara Zakuro) is the last of the main Mew Mews introduced. As with the others, she first appears at the endangered animal exhibit without being named.Zakuro tends to be a loner and initially refuses to join the other Mew Mews, but changes her mind after they come to her aid. Infused with the DNA of a Gray Wolf, Zakuro has a wolf tail and ears while in her Mew Mew form. Zakuro is a professional model and is presented as a mature character. As her biggest fan Mint effuses, Zakuro has "long, glossy, raven hair" with "dark, intelligent, yet sensitive eyes" and "long, strong and thin legs".Zakuro's background is more developed in the anime adaptation and she is said to be estranged from her family since leaving home two years earlier.Junko Noda provides her voice in the anime. In the Mew Mew Power English adaptation, her name is changed to Renée Roberts and her voice is supplied by Mollie Weaver.

Kish (キッシュ, Kisshu) is the second of the aliens to return to earth. Introduced at the end of the first volume of the manga, Kish primarily acts in a playful and carefree manner, seeming to enjoying fighting with the Mew Mews and treating it like a game.Throughout the series, Kish develops increasingly stronger feelings for Ichigo, first regarding her as an "interesting toy" (that he would kill for his leader), and obsessing over her.Kish eventually kidnaps Ichigo, confesses his love, and then demands that she cry because he loves seeing her being frightened.Kish again declares his love to Ichigo towards the end of the series, but attacks and begins strangling her while crying when she rejects him again. He eventually releases her after asking how he can make her love him.Kish is killed after turning against Deep Blue by protecting Ichigo, but is revived with the power of the mew aqua after Deep Blue's defeat. He returns with Pie and Tart to their planet after wishing Ichigo happiness and stealing one final kiss.In the anime adaptation, his voice actor is Daisuke Sakaguchi. In the Mew Mew Power English adaptation his name is changed to Dren and he is voiced by Andrew Rannells.
